While 55% of faculty used a first day assignment, approximately 83% of faculty set aside a section of Blackboard for course-related questions. In one case, a faculty member set up three separate sections of Blackboard for questions; lecture questions, exam questions, and general questions. While some professors simply use the subject title, “Questions for Class,” one faculty member has an “Ask The Professor” section on his discussion board.
Using this idea saves time for instructor (you don’t have to answer the same questions over and over), and provides students with a forum where they can go for quick answers to common questions and problems. While all faculty responded to student questions in a timely manner, only one faculty member noted that all questions would be answered within 24 hours.
Below is an image of the Discussion Board question forum I’ve set in my Introduction to Psychology class.
